General settings for accessing campus email via POP or IMAP
These instructions and general settings are used to retrieve campus email via a mail client application, such as Outlook, Thunderbird, or Mac Mail. Choose the set of instructions that apply to the type of account you have.
Email Accounts on Gmail
- These accounts can also be accessed at http://mail.my.fit.edu/Â
- When you are prompted for your email address, it is your tracks ID followed by @my.fit.edu
- When prompted for your password, it is you Google Apps password. This has to be set separately from your TRACKS account. You can set your Google Apps password by selecting Google Password from the drop-down box in the password change tool.
- You will have to decide if you want to use POP or IMAP.
- For POP, the incoming server is pop.gmail.com
- For IMAP, the incoming server is imap.gmail.com
- The outbound server is smpt.gmail.com

Email Accounts on the Exchange ServerÂ
- These accounts can also be accessed at https://webmail.it.fit.edu/Â
- You will have to decide if you want to use POP or IMAP.
- The inbound server (for either POP3 or IMAP) is ex.fit.edu
- You should use SSL for your POP/IMAP service to prevent clear text usernames and passwords from being sent.
- The inbound port for SSL for POP is 995. *
- The inbound port for SSL for IMAP is 993. *
- The outbound SMTP server is mailhost.fit.edu
- The SMTP server requires SMTP Authentication and either SSL or TLS should be enabled.
- The outbound port for SMTP for TLS is 25. *
- If your ISP does not allow you to connect to FIT's SMTP server, you may have to use your ISP's SMTP server. (You would have to contact your ISP for this information.)
- You will need to know your Tracks ID and password.
- Your FIT email address is your Tracks ID followed by @fit.edu
 *Note - Most of the time the ports listed are the defaults and you won't have to change them.
Email Accounts on the Mailhost Server
- These accounts can also be accessed via Squirrelmail at https://webaccess.fit.edu/
- You will have to decide if you want to use POP or IMAP.
- The inbound server (for either POP3 or IMAP) is mailhost.fit.edu
- You should use SSL for your POP/IMAP service to prevent clear text usernames and passwords from being sent.
- The inbound port for SSL for POP is 995. *
- The inbound port for SSL for IMAP is 993. *
- The outbound SMTP server is mailhost.fit.edu
- The SMTP server requires SMTP Authentication and either SSL or TLS should be enabled.
- The outbound port for SMTP for SSL is 465. *
- The outbound port for SMTP for TLS is 25. *
