How to set up IMAP or POP in Outlook

The following steps will allow you to access your campus email using the Outlook client. This article applies to mail stored on the mailhost server, also access through Squirrelmail, often referred to as POP email. This article does not apply to staff and faculty who are using Exchange.

Configuring Outlook XP, 2003 for TRACKS

  1. Open Outlook XP or Outlook 2003.
  2. If the "Account Configuration" wizard starts, then skip to Step 5.
  3. Under the "Tools" menu, click on "Email Accounts...".
  4. Click on "Add a new e-mail account" and click on Next.
  5. Click on POP or IMAP and click on Next.
  6. Under User Information, enter your Name.
  7. Under User Information, enter your TRACKS email address: [Your TRACKS username]@fit.edu
  8. Under Logon information, enter your TRACKS User Name.
  9. (Optional) Under Logon Information, enter your TRACKS Password if you do not want to enter your password all the time.
  10. Under Server Information, enter mailhost.fit.edu for the incoming mail server.
  11. Enter mailhost.fit.edu for the outgoing email server. Click on "More Settings...".
  12. Click on the "Advanced" tab.
  13. Under "Incoming mail (POP3)" or "Incoming mail (IMAP)", check the box next to "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)".
  14. If you are off-campus, you will need to use SSL or TLS for the Outgoing mail (SMTP) as well.
  15. Click on "OK".
  16. Click on "Next".
  17. Click on "Finish", and you are ready to start using your mail application with your TRACKS account.
