How to set up IMAP or POP in Windows Mail

The following steps will allow you to access your campus email using the Windows Mail client. This article does not apply to staff and faculty who are using Exchange.

  1. Open Windows Mail
  2. If the Setup Wizard does not start automatically go to Tools, then Accounts, then Add..., then Email Account.
  3. Fill in the Display Name field. Next.
  4. Fill in the E-mail address field. Next.
  5. Select POP or IMAP for the Incoming e-mail server type.
  6. The Incoming mail server and Outgoing mail server are both "mailhost.fit.edu" without the quotes.
  7. Leave the "Outgoing server requires authentication" box unchecked. Next.
  8. The E-mail username and Password field will be that of your TRACKS login. Next.
  9. Check "Do not download my e-mail at this time." Finish.
  10. Tools -> Accounts -> [your account] -> Properties -> Advanced
  11. Under "Incoming mail (POP3/IMAP)", check "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)".
  12. OK. Close.
