Email Features on Mailhost.fit.edu

Accessing Email

Your email can be accessed from the web at https://webaccess.fit.edu or you can setup your email client. The instructions are here: Email Setup Instructions

Attachment Limit

The send and receive size limit for an email message is 10MB.

Blocked Attachments

Currently, there are extensions on attachments blocked from being sent and received. If you are trying to send or receive a legitimate attachment, then rename the extension to a unblocked extension. Also, zipping the files up and sending the zip file will allow them to be sent and received.

Here is the list of extensions being blocked at this current time: (Click Here)

SPAM Filtering

Each email received is analyzed by a series of tests to determine the probability the email is a SPAM email. The probability is stored in the email as the SPAM score. The SPAM score starts at 0 and increases as the tests return a positive. By default, any email with a SPAM score over 5 is deleted and a message is sent to the sender that the message was blocked. Then, the user decides what to do to the lower SPAM scored email. Instructions for setting up the SPAM Filtering is here.

Quota

The current email quota for each user is 100MB.

Virus Scanning

All email attachments are scanned for viruses. If a virus is found, then the email attachment will be replaced with a virus notice. The virus email will have the subject modified to look like this example "{VIRUS?} Subject".
