Accessing your Udrive (On and Off-Campus)

This document outlines the methods available to access your Udrive both on and off-campus. Four methods to access your home directory are listed below.

  1. Mapping a Network Drive on your Mac or PC
  2. Using Secure Shell for a Telnet (text) like interface
  3. Using Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP)
  4. Using the TRACKS portal

Mapping a Network Drive on your Mac or PC

Windows PC

If connecting with a PC that is a member of the TRACKS Account Domain (FLTECH), the drive will already be mapped as drive U. Otherwise follow the instructions below:

  • Windows NT 4 / 2000 / XP:
    1. From the Windows Explorer, select the Tools menu and then the Map Network Drive Menu Item.
    2. Pick the desired letter for the remote drive and type . \\udrive.fit.edu\[Your TRACKS USERNAME].
    3. click ok and when a dialog box appears prompting for a username and password, type your username as FLTECH\[Your TRACKS USERNAME] and then your TRACKS account password.
  • Windows 95 / 98 / ME:
    1. When you boot your computer, if it has only two boxes (i.e. Logon and Password):
      1. Go to Network Properties (Right click on Network Neighborhood, and click on Properties).
      2. Click on Client for Microsoft Networks and then click on Properties.
      3. Make sure that the box next to Log on to Windows NT domain is checked.
      4. Type FLTECH in the Windows NT domain box.
      5. Click OK in the Client for Microsoft Networks Properties box.
      6. Click OK in the Network Properties box.
      7. Reboot your computer.
      8. Make sure that the Domain box has FLTECH in it.
      9. You must logon to your computer with the same username as your TRACKS Account username.
      10. From the Windows Explorer, select the Tools menu and then the Map Network Drive Menu item.
      11. Pick the desired letter for the remote drive and type \\udrive.fit.edu\[Your TRACKS USERNAME].
      12. If the drive does not map, substitute \\163.118.131.7\[Your TRACKS USERNAME] for step 11 above.
    2. When you boot your computer, if it has three boxes (i.e. Logon, Password and Domain):
      1. Make sure that the Domain box has FLTECH in it.
      2. You must logon to your computer with the same username as your TRACKS Account username.
      3. From the Windows Explorer, select the Tools menu and then the Map Network Drive Menu item.
      4. Pick the desired letter for the remote drive and type \\udrive.fit.edu\[Your TRACKS USERNAME].
      5. If the drive does not map, substitute \\163.118.131.7\[Your TRACKS USERNAME] for step 4 above

Mac OS X

If connecting with a Mac that is a member of the TRACKS system, the drive will already be mapped. Otherwise follow the instructions below:

  1. From the finder, select the go menu.
  2. Select "Connect to Server."
  3. Type smb://udrive.fit.edu/[Your TRACKS username].
  4. Enter FLTECH for the domain name, your TRACKS username as the user, and your password when prompted.
  5. The home directory will now be available on your desktop and the finder.

 

Using Secure Shell for a Telnet (text) like interface

  1. Obtain the freely available SSH Client for PC, or MAC OS. For Detailed SSH Instructions click here.
  2. Use SSH to connect to my.fit.edu using your TRACKS username and password.

 

Using Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP)

  • Obtain the freely available SFTP Client PC or MAC. For Detailed SSH Instructions click here. A Secure FTP (SFTP) Utility is included with the SSH Client.
  • Use SSH to connect to my.fit.edu using your TRACKS username and password.

 

Using the TRACKS Portal

Currently, the TRACKS portal provides web-based email for your TRACKS (@fit.edu) account, a personal calendar, web-based file management, vacation message management, and email address forwarding.
